Comments: Lake Arlington is a man made lake made in the early
90's. It's primary use is for park district recreation. There is
a paved trail surrounding the lake which is frequented by bikers,
rollerbladers, etc. The field house rents out paddleboats and sailboats.
Several "bucket" fisherman can be seen fishing near the front of
the lake with their big red bobbers and such. But it appears that
for the serious angler, this lake can produce some nice fish. The
shoreline is all rip rap and most vegetation is submerged and not
overly abundant.
Lake Arlington
is a catch-and-release lake except for carp. The entire shoreline
can be fished and there is always plenty of room to find a good
spot. I've had my best luck with plastic worm simply casting way
out and working them back to shore. Rapalas are also productive,
especially along the shoreline close to sunset. Bass, crappie, and
bluegill will make up the majority of the catch. However, a lot
of fishermen work for carp and catch some big ones.
You want to
catch some fish? Give Lake Arlington a try. Catching fish is never
a a gaurantee anywhere, but at Lake Arlington, the odds are certainly
in your favor.
Bathrooms are
located in the fieldhouse and a porta-potty is located on the north
shoreline. Snacks can be purchased at the fieldhouse and stores
are located 5 minutes away on Palatine Road.
Bottom Line:
A very nice little park district lake that hosts a lot of recreation. The
fishing seems to be quite good and should continue to produce. I've
heard rumors of 38 inch northern pike. We'll just have to
see.

Arlington 2005 Fishing Reports:
Report:
May 30, 2005 -- Jason W. Norris Mostly sunny, temps about 70, northeast wind 10-15mph.
Started by the north shoreline point and picked up a few small bass
on small floating Rapalas worked just under the surface. Then moved
to the south shoreline near the ramp and picked up several more
small bass and some decent bluegill. Most of the bass were quite
small (8 inches), the biggest was probably 10 inches. Between both
of us, we likely caught 2 dozen bass and several bluegill.
Report:
May 29, 2005 -- Jason W. Norris "The answer is blowing in the wind"... I guess
it is. I hate wind when fishing, always have. Perhaps I need to
change that thinking. Same conditions as yesterday, except for,
well, no wind. The only thing the fish would chase was a little
floating Rapala. Got 4 bass, all dinks; a crappie on a Gitzit Hardtime
minnow, and a few bluegill that were crazy enough to hit a 3"
Husky Jerk.
Report:
May 28, 2005 -- Jason W. Norris
Temps in the mid 60's, west winds 10-20mph/diminishing, partly cloudy.
Fished from 6:30pm-9pm. Picked up two quick bass on the northshoreline
near the point on a Gulp plastic nightcrawler (7"/natural),
and on a 3" red Senko. Another angler in the same spot picked
up 2 bass on a small spinner. Over by the gazebo and pier ramp,
I picked up several small bass on Rapalas at sunset. Another angler,
Rich, had been working the shoreline for several hours and had caught
over 12 bass, a few gills and crappie too.

13, 2001 -- Jason W. Norris
First time for me on Lake Arlington. Fished from
4:40pm to 7:30pm. Temps in the upper 80's, light east wind, mostly
sunny. Worked area of the east side of the point on the south shoreline
and picked up a few bass on plastic worms and a small rapala. Worked
the southeast corner and my cousin got a 17.5 inch bass on a plastic
worm. Worked the north shoreline straight down from the gazebo and
picked up a few more bass (13 inch range) on plastic worms. A very
fun time. 10 bass caught between my cousin and I.
Report:
July 15, 2001 -- Jason W. Norris
Sunny hot and humid. Temps around 90, and a hazy
sun made conditions very uncomfortable. Fished from 11am to 1pm.
I caught 2 bass, 10 and 13 inches from the north shoreline opposite
the gazebo. My buddy got a 13 inch bass in the same spot and another
13 incher from the east side of the point on the south shoreline.
All fish caught on plastic worms.

July 20, 2001 -- Jason W. Norris
Partly sunny, very hot and very humid. Temps in the
upper 80's with an east wind. Fished from 4:30pm to 7:00 pm. Picked
a 10 inch bass on the first cast. That's it! got it using a plastic
worm opposite the gazebo on the north shoreline. My cousin hooked
into a 14 inch bass on the east side of the point on the south shoreline
using a Rat'L Trap but lost it just as he went to bring it out of
the water.
