Date: 2010-07-30

Does anyone have anywhere to check and find out if boat launches in certain places are open or closed? I went on Thursday to do a bit of boating/fishing and it was closed but I could not even find out a phone number to call to find out. I tried to google this but had no luck.

If anyone has any info it will greatly be appreciated.

	Date: 2010-07-30

Thanks guys. I was having some trouble with the text box in the original post, so i kept it short. #1 bait once again this year was the chatterbait in gold and black. In my opinion it produces mainly because it gets down to the fish, covers water, and is a decent crayfish imitation. Swim jigs also did fairly well early in the morning. Ben also found some success throwing a spinnerbait in a few spots. Other then that, leeches on light line with a fluro leader produced well too. Size overall was nothing to write home about. One of the bars did put an underwater light in which attacted schools of crappie. I had a fun time trying to figure out how to get them to bite. Tiny jigs with small plastics took fish, but only b/w 2-6 a night. At one point Ben got disgusted and through hits leftover plastic in the water. He watched in amazement as a slab came and sucked it right up. He throws another one in and we watched in amazement as another one sucked it up with seconds. Smart fish. Another highlight was getting on a pike pattern one morning that produced nearly 10 fish in an hour. No size, but it was fun to learn something new in a lake we fish quite a bit. Anyways, back to the grind for me next week. I'm looking forward to next year already

	Date: 2010-07-30

I have fished the Chain for my whole life. There are tons of memories from youth to present day. Fishing the Chain for me is as much about the nostalgia as it is about the fishing. The last several years we have watched the water levels decline and take away some spots that annually have produced well. The last couple years we have been dealing with the aftermath of weed treatments which has eradicated a large majority of the weedbeds on the lakes. This year they were right in the middle of treating our favorite lake on the Chain, which gradually killed the fishing and turned the gin clear water into a mud puddle with dying weeds littering the surface. Tough to watch, but the Chain is not managed for fishing, its managed for the hundreds of boats that cruise its water having a good time every day.

Anyways, enough whining, there were still some fish caught. With the eradication of the weeds it became quite easy to find fish. Just find the clear water and remaining weeds. Overall, it was still somewhat slower then normal, but we fished much less then normal as well.

The first night in the boat my cousin and I had about 20 minutes of daylight left backlighted by a beautiful sunset.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y211/FishinMatt/Waupaca%2010/100_2602.jpg

The next few days were pretty good until the impact of the weed kill started taking effect.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y211/FishinMatt/Waupaca%2010/100_2604.jpg

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y211/FishinMatt/Waupaca%2010/100_2608.jpg

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y211/FishinMatt/Waupaca%2010/100_2610.jpg

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y211/FishinMatt/Waupaca%2010/100_2612.jpg

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y211/FishinMatt/Waupaca%2010/100_2613.jpg

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y211/FishinMatt/Waupaca%2010/100_2614.jpg

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y211/FishinMatt/Waupaca%2010/100_2616.jpg

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y211/FishinMatt/Waupaca%2010/100_2617.jpg

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y211/FishinMatt/Waupaca%2010/100_2618.jpg

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y211/FishinMatt/Waupaca%2010/100_2620.jpg

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y211/FishinMatt/Waupaca%2010/100_2621.jpg

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y211/FishinMatt/Waupaca%2010/100_2624.jpg

Ben and family is still up there, so hopefully the next few days produce some more nice fish.

	Date: 2010-07-30

Nice work Tony.
Rattletraps is something I was thinking about last night when I was reading WBC's post about the water being so murky. I bet WBC is putting some loud rattles in those jigs he's been poppin' lately and if he isn't, he should.
Fish that are accustomed to hunting by sight need help when the water loses its clarity. That's prolly sumin you thought of also.
BTW, the only color Senko to use is watermelon.
