Date: 2010-03-10

Was at both today. Diversey you still can't launch out of unless you have an icebreaker ship. Burnham is about 2 miles south and it's almost completely free of ice, you'd have no problem launching there now. If you're coming from schaumburg I'd think that'd be easier than 95th. Didn't see anyone at the pipe for salmon yet though? Belmont still is iced over on the north half but the south half(including the bay near the mouth) is completely ice free. Guys are salmon fishing there already for about a week or more.

Walleye seeker the guys you see fishing at navy pier are going for perch.

	Date: 2010-03-10

Checked out 3 ponds on the way home today. 2 were ice free on the entire south and west shores. The other one which was bigger only had a few small shoreline spots open. I think most small water around here will be open by the weekend.

I've been out with Scumfrog probably at 8-10 times through the winter. crappie/gill bite pretty steady throughout until 2 or 3 weeks ago when everything has just been dead. On saturday I did manage 3 dink bass. I took that as some sort of moral victory at least but hoping things get shakin there soon. anyone got any stories

Re: Best product for sealing a leaky aluminum boat???

	Forum: The Tackle Box
Date: 2010-03-10

Where does it leak?

I have had great luck giving the rivets along a leaky seam a couple taps while holding a block of steel against the other side. (Sometimes a two man job.) I could be more specific if you like.

If its a little tear (1-2" maybe) caused by a bump, or a wear spot away from a seam, I would use JB weld. I fixed a little boat with it many years ago and it held fine. Actually better than fine, like a rock. And you can grind and shape JB Weld as if it were steel, once it dries. I have used it for other things besides boats, and it always amazes me.

If its a bigger tear or a hole, you can get a piece of aluminum from Home Depot or Menards, cut it to desired size, and rivet it over the damaged area. They sell many shapes and sizes, in a variety of gauges, and at a decent price. Use caulk to seal in between the patch and the original surface of the boat. I could be more specific if you want to try this method.

A shady method I have used, while out somewheres that I didn't have tools, is to cut the top and bottom off an aluminum can and cut it open so its a rectangular piece of aluminum, cover one side with liquid nails, and slap it over the leak. I don't recommend this for anything more than temporary fix.

I have pics of all of these types of repairs, and will be happy to find them if you're interested.
