Hunting Help

Postby AirCatcher » Dec Tue 13, 2016 11:46 am

Can anyone help me out? I really want to get into hunting but I really have no idea where to start.. I have my license. But zero knowledge (besides how to shoot)... I'm looking for someone wise to show me the ropes. Someone who is willing to take me out and spread their knowledge. I'd love to get a bird for Christmas dinner! Please, help and take a novice out... I will gladly pay for ammo / gas / breakfast / lunch.. whatever it takes! I've tried on other forums but have gotten no responses. Please, send me a message if you can help me out!
Thank you in advance!

Go buy a permit for the controlled pheasant hunt on the site below and go kill a bird. no dog no problem. kick bushes.

I would 2nd UrbanHog's recommendation.

Depending where you live, i would suggest DesPlaines Conservation Area in Wilmington : https://www.dnr.illinois.gov/hunting/Fa ... eArea.aspx

or the Chain O Lakes State Park in Antioch : https://www.dnr.illinois.gov/hunting/Fa ... ePark.aspx

Buy some #6 size shotgun shells, get a blaze orange hat and a blaze orange vest... and just follow the site specific regulations provided in the link. Show up, walk around, and hopefully shoot some pheasants.

If you're really desperate to bird out go with a goose, duck or pheasant outfitter. I've birded out both times with these guys for geese: http://www.braidwoodlakehuntclub.com/.
Unless we've talked, pm, texted or have fished together before please don't ask me for my fishing spots.
