On the board, Saturday 4-15

Postby Brett » Apr Tue 18, 2017 11:11 am

Battled the winds all day, at one point I was anchored in the NE corner and afraid to pull it up because I didn't think my trolling motor could keep me from blowing under the boardwalk. Anyway hours of struggling yielded this pre-adolescent crappie, who hit a shad rap. That was it, still frustrated.

Those water temps are right where they need to be, should get interesting any moment.

That wind was insane on Saturday. It was such a "beautiful" day out, but a a huge disappointment for anglers.

If I may hijack the thread in order to add to the report:

Opeka on Monday, less windy, water temps 57-60. The coldest of three lakes I hit over the weekend. The bite showed. Only one bass on the jig and pig that came shallow to slay the skunk.

The bite at Lake Opeka is more of a summer thing for me anyway.

Water was 58 in the SW corner Saturday, 60 by the launch. Sunday I was skunked and it was 60 or 61 all around. Nice bass. I have been throwing pork trailers too.

You will have a 1 bass to 1 cat ratio come summer with that presentation. Cats there are ferocious predators and hammer jigs in the shallows.

And nice crappie. I actually tossed a little bit for panfish after spooking some off the rocks. No such cooperation there either.

I love to throw chatter baits with chigger craws off the rocks there when the sun starts going down. Not last year but two years ago I caught a lot cats with that presentation. Then none last year.
