So I was thinking of going for some catfish in the DP river for the dinner table. Would you eat anything from there? It looks kinda cloudy and dirty, I'm not sure if i trust it.

Thoughts?

I'm pretty sure the IL DNR has the DPR on the list of lakes/rivers not to eat out of. I wouldn't do it. I'd hit up a local grocer or popeyes as CatchNRelease said

Well it looks like I will pass on the DPR. However I would be curious to see if Popeyes was actually any better that whatevers lurking in the river. All these "health" shows, showing us what we really dont want to see in our fast food...

Page 60 for DPR guidelines - actually far less restrictive than you'd think.

With catfish from grocery stores, the American-raised fish are great, but avoid the imported ones because they're not regulated well on either end and may not actually be catfish, have been fed disgusting products/illegal antibiotics or other drugs.

Last thing I ate from the DPR was a 30" pike from dam #2, about 15 years ago.

Even though that river has come along way from the level of pollution it saw back in the early 70's, it's got a long way to go. I know that people do eat fish from there but I would never willingly eat from there. In fact I wouldn't eat from any of the major rivers in the Northern Illinois area. Maybe the Kank......maybe.

I definitley agree, nobody should eat a fish out of the DPR! I grew up out 5 minutes from
the river and still can't believe they actually got it back to the level of a fish bearing river.
It was disgusting !! From what I read on here though it sounds like a fun place to practice
C&R . :D
