Is the section of the DP that runs along the West side of Independence Grove a good area to fish for Pike?

Thanks.

I was actually wondering as well, the only fault I can see is that the water doesn't flow that quickly through there. I think a lot of the pike are caught closer to the dams. I just started fishing Independance Grove though, mostly for cats so I haven't tested out the dpr there.

I do as well or better away from dams as I do directly above or below them when pike fishing.

You may have seen a bunch of guys fishing the dams. I know that there are always more fishermen around the dams where I go (from Wheeling to Franklin Park), but most of them are usually carp or cat fishing. The few guys I have seen pike fishing have usually been away from the dams.

Slow current is just as good as slack water imo. As afalconsvick says you can catch them all over. I caught them from 6 inches of water to couple of feet. Nothing better then seeing it stalk your bait.

My final question. What is the bottom structure. Is it wadeable or is it too soft?

Thanks!

I haven't tried to wade it but it looks kind of sandy and soft to me. I did take a few casts right by the bridge there at IG and lost bout a 20-24inch northern right next to the rocks on the IG side. Picked up a few chubs in there too off the bottom with worm lol

I read it is gravel once you get past the sludge along the edges. But that is just what I have read. Never tried it myself.
