South Branch Friday

Do you fish the Kish?

South Branch Friday

Postby Rambler » Apr Wed 26, 2017 10:56 am

My wife had a meeting in Rockford on Friday so I drove her out, dropped her off & hit the South Branch of the Kish at a place called Deer Run. Beautiful stretch. Waded for 2 hours before having to go pick her up. No fish but great time.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone else on the Kish when I've been there. Gotta love the Kish!

Yeah. When I was in school at NIU back in prehistoric times we used to float from campus up to Rte 64 in truck tubes. Never occurred to me to fish it. Wish I'd known then what I know now. But that holds for so many thing.

Can't say for sure - don't remember fishing the North. I believe the South is the smaller branch so it could very well have better clarity. It sure is pretty.

South branch is very clear. Minus all the rain though. Haven't gone out there yet, tried once but the current was ripping

Can't help but feel I'm missing out by never having fished that river. Looks nice and secluded.

Some good sized Northern in that stretch given the small size of the river. A couple years ago I caught a few 30"+ right next to campus 20' from Rte. 38. There's a few decent smallie through there too.

Never much of a crowd any time I've ever been. I should fish it more, since it's only 5 mins. from my house... in my spare time.

That's because the locals are soooo hard at work studying. Yeah, right.

They may not have been studying hard, but I love this time of year when most all of the 20k of them leave town. :D
