Shabbona Lake
DeKalb County, IL

Shabbona Lake Location:
From Chicago take I-88 west to the Sugar Grove exit, which is approximately 2 ½ miles west of the Aurora toll booth. Take US 30 west from Sugar Grove approximately 22 miles to Shabbona. Visitors from the Northeast or Southeast, take IL Rt 47 to US 30 west to Shabbona. From Southwest or Northwest, take I-39 to US 30 (exit 87). Directional signs are on the exit ramps. Take US 30 east 7 miles to Shabbona. From the DeKalb area, take IL Rt 23 south to US 30, then take US 30 west to Shabbona. The park entrance is on Preserve Road, approximately ½ mile south of Shabbona. Signs in Shabbona will direct you to the park.

Shabbona Lake Known Species:
Muskie, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, Channel Catfish, White Crappie, Black Crappie, Hybrid Striped Bass, Bluegill, Bullhead, Carp.

Comments and Info:
Shabbona lake is considered the Muskie Capital of Illinois and for a good reason - 4 state record muskie have come from Shabbona Lake, the largest being over 49 inches! Aside from muskie, Shabbona Lake also produces incredible numbers of largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, hybrid striped bass, and walleye! Talk about having it all. And let's not forget the panfish. You'll need a pretty big pan for these record fish...17.5 inch crappie, and bluegill larger than your hand.

Shabbona Lake is surrounded by by the Shabbone State Recreation Area which includes parks, picnic areas, and a 150-site campground. Alcohol is not permitted at the campground and this policy is strictly enforced.

Boat rentals are available. And they have a great selection of boats to choose from - Sylvan Bass Boats, motor boats, row boats, pontoon boats, and paddle boats.

At 319 acres with a maximum depth of about 40 feet, Shabbona lake is one of the premier fishing lakes in the entire midwest. There can be some very heavy angling pressure, so a visit during a weekday might be your best bet.
