Not sure where this really goes, I thought there was a general GEAR section.
In any event, Aldi currently is selling a Bresser HD Action Cam. Its for 43.00 out the door. You have to ask for it at the Cashier.

Reviews are sparse on it but from what I found there isnt really a bad one.

You can find info online under NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ACTION CAMERA. They were sold and branded as that in the UK it looks like.

In any event, I picked one up. Looks decent, video is good as well.

GREAT entry level camera I would think. Comes with a billion mounts as well.

43 bucks is pretty darn inexpensive. I just got an action cam too. Got the GeekPro 4.0 for $120. Has a 2" display and it does 4k, 2k, and 1080/60fps. Has WiFi and a remote control. Loads of attachments and clips. Tried it once and the video quality seems about as good as GoPro. GoPro is expensive for a first time action camera purchase, especially since they often fall in to the lake or river you're fishing.

This sounds interesting. Thanks for the info. I'm trying to decide on a solution (GoPro is an obvious choice -- but dat money that can be used on other things...) to take pictures while on my kayak. Where I'd typically want to mount it is on the front handle of the kayak meaning that I'd need a remote to trigger pictures. Do you know what options are on this Bresser HD action camera for capturing photos? Thanks!

the problem with those cheap action cams are the batteries. they last like 20 minutes and they aren't replaceable.
I would generally agree with this observation along the price point for most personal-use devices with battery power these days. I did plenty of research and found the GeekPro 4.0 which was realistically priced at 120 and has a 1050mah battery that has reviews indicating a real world battery life of 1.5 hrs of recording time at 1080/60fps. When I tried it out the battery life estimate seems correct. That seems comparable to the GoPro 3 or 4's reported battery life. Any action camera seems to require multiple batteries for a full day outing but anything that only lasts 20 or 30 mins is problematic.

Id shoot that for free. Hit me up.
So you want to bore people to death with videos of me showing my incompetence? They will never forgive you. You'd be better off giving hour-long slide shows of your Yellowstone vacation. :wtf:

There is also the option now that the portable cell phone charger batteries are inexpensive and plentiful that you can power all your cameras off one or two via cables. You'll be able to record for much longer that way.

The local Aldis are sold out. A few friends went to get one. Im uploading a video I shot this AM and will post in a bit.
Decent quality camera. Im super pleased so far. No issues.
They can be had online as well. Either this one or anyone like it. They all look wildly similar and have similar stats. Prices range from 50-110.00 in the Budget Go Pro category.
