Here Kitty Kitty

Postby Bassackwards » May Tue 06, 2014 6:07 pm

Headed to Donut Lake on Sunday with my 5 year old who wanted to re-catch the channel cat he caught last fall. To date it was his biggest fish ever, 22". Tried liver bags and raw shrimp by the volleyball courts, off the pier by the playground and in the northwest corner. Not even a nibble. Even put some golden roaches in the water and wax worms. No luck. Any suggestions? It was overcast most of the day but still a little too windy. He also desperately wants to catch a northern. Oh well, four hours of fishing with my little guy still translates into a good day.

There is Muskies in there, not so sure about pike or at least never actually saw one. I grew up down the street, and fished there all the time as a kid.

Catch a gill cut it up and use that for cats. Some of the biggest bass we ever caught there were when we had bluegills get crushed under the northside pier by the park.

Not 100% accurate. Straight from the IDNR regs:

Bluegill As Bait
There is nothing in the Illinois Fish Code which
prohibits the use of legally taken bluegill or sunfish
as bait for another species of fish, but bluegill/sunfish
can only be used at the body of water from
which they were taken. The bluegill/ sunfish must
have been taken by a properly licensed sport fisherman
using legal sportfishing devices. You must
also observe all size and creel limits both where
the bluegill/ sunfish were taken and where they
are being used as bait. Also, it is illegal to cut up
or dress or be in possession of cut up or dressed
fish on any body of water where there is a size
limit for that particular species of fish.

go to a browns chicken, kfc, or popeyes and ask for their left over chicken gizzards/guts. slop that on a nice sized hook and let it sit at the bottom and let the fun begin!! If that doesnt work, get an old hot dog, throw it in a plastic bag with some moisture let it get stinky rotten and moldy and try that. Both things have caught me GREAT cats in southern tenn.
