Great deal on a HD high line capacity reel

Postby HEDDONFROG » Dec Fri 27, 2019 4:31 am

I asked Mike for a recommendation for a reel I can use for big swimbaits & A-rigs, that was lighter and smaller profile than the Shimano Tranx 300, Calcutta Conquest, the Daiwa Lexa & Abu Revo Toro Beast. He pointed out this deal being offered by The Tackle Trap. It’s a JDM Daiwa Catalina TW. It retails for $350 and its on sale for $189 shipped. It compares to the Zillion HD TW in size and price. It is larger than my Tatula SV’s but weighs less than a 1/2oz more at 7.9ozs. From my limited time on the water with it, it bombs casts with excellent control and is super smooth. All the specs are in the link as well as more on the water details, just keep scrolling down the page.

Well damn...looks like I (you) found a replacement for my Lexa 300

Good looking reel! I have Daiwa Tatulas on the rest or my rods and love them so hopefully this stacks up next to them well!

Helluva sale, but that'd require buying another higher end rod for something I'd use a handful of times a year.

Very nice reel not what I consider high capacity tho no where near a Lexa 300 or Lews super duty wide spool.

You just have to use the discount code on the final step/page of the check out process. It's still $189. The code is BBC10

You're right but I spooled about 115/120yds of 20lb flouro on Thursday, more than enough for most large bait applications. Both those you mentioned hold 190yds of 14lb, so call it what? 140/150yrds of 20lbs? I'll take that trade off for the smaller profile for my smaller hands and I feel it's just a higher end reel than both those, for less money
