get a simple lowrance hook triple shot. That one includes the side scan. I think you'll use the downscan more than side but that's just me. $499 at Bass Pro. Set up is quite simple. just level the ducer and you should be good to go.

I've got a nice lowrance TI7 for you that I'll do 500 for. Side scan, down imaging and all. Let me get pics later for you

Looks like that’s on a Hobie. Did you permanently mount the transducer somewhere or do you raise it and lower it as you need it ?
I’m asking because on my Revo I have a bare bones old Lowrance unit that I shoot through the hull, have the transducer secured in the front hatch area. If I upgrade someday with a unit that has the modern capabilities I’m not sure those units can shoot through the hull. Can they? I might have to do a rudder mount. My Revo doesn’t have the rails but it does have aluminum gear tracks that I installed that I’m sure I could McGyver something to mount a transducer to. I do a lot of trolling and with the hatch mount there isn’t any drag.

I totally derailed this thread. Sorry.

I’m interested in buying one too, but I just rent boats at Busse and 3 Oaks. Are there portable mounts out there that I can use to easily set it up on a rental boat?

I'd recommend a humminbird helix with autochart live. I wouldnt go side imaging on less than a 7 inch screen, which puts it out of your budget unless you buy used
