Down in the Valley 9/28/19

Saturday was a 3 Star on the Solunar Calendar, with a New Moon. The weather, well, it wasn't pleasant, but the overcast with wind conditions were just right, but I still felt like it was going to be a grind, with 6-10 bites possible--I had to make every bite count.

I decided to hit the lake around 7 a.m., and my search bait was a Zoom Super Fluke, Pearl Chartreuse Tail, on my Fox River M/F spinning rod with 8lb mono. I rigged the bait weightless, on a Gamakatsu 3/0 EWG. First cast and I landed a 17", 2.03lb largemouth. Well, that was a confidence booster. I had 4 other rod/reel combos, with a Ribbit Frog, a T-Rig, a popper, and a chatterbait. I ran through each combo at most spots. By the time I called it a day at 3:45, I managed to land 10, fight 2-3 that I lost, and had a few strikes without a hook-up. I had three dinks, a few 13-14", a nice 15". Most came on the Super Fluke. The top of the day was an 18", 2.92lb. She hit my T-rigged SK Rage Structure Bug (Summer Craw) out deep. She hit hard, like a shark, and when I was re-rigging my bait I noticed that the hook wasn't laying flat on the back of my creature bait--she had bent out my 3/0 Super Line Gamakatsu EWG hook! The 15" came on the same bait and in the same location, about 10 minutes after I caught the big girl. Here's the pic of my best for the day:

Way to go Cranky. That weightless fluke is an awesome bait. I always had one tied on when I fished the DPR. It was a great follow up bait for pike that would swipe at a hard bait.~JOE~

Way to go. Nice report. Yesterday I got on 65 degree water temps and it was a small bass bonanza.

Thank you, gentlemen, for your high fives. A couple of things I wanted to share. The barometer was high and rising during my time fishing, with is peaking about the time I caught by big one. Also, the Pearl with Chartreuse Tail Super Fluke didn't spook the fish at all, and I just decided to use it because I could see it--the water was stained, about 3 feet visibility. I usually have thrown a green pumpkin, or baby bass, shad colors, etc., but I am not going to shy away from throwing white/pearl baits anymore.
