9.28.2019 - About friggin time.

I didn't need an expert to tell me that Saturday had some good potential to be a banner day out on the water. After work and taking care of some stuff, I headed to the same lake that Cranky was on hoping to have a confidence building day. I ran into him on his way out, and after hearing that he didn't have too shabby of a day I was confident that I'd get on some. Not a couple casts after he left, I hooked into my first of the day. Shortly after, I caught my first in a spot that has normally been outstanding for me but didn't produce a single bite until this day. Every spot I hit was much of the same...little dink bass after little dink bass. I told Cranky that I planned on staying an hour after he left, That didn't happen as I ended up making the full loop around the lake. At the halfway point, I finally hooked into something...eh. I took a me in the pic picture thinking it would go as catch of the day with the way things were going.

Hit the east shore and it wasn't as productive as the west. When I first got there, I kept having hits directly at my feet by some decent fish and thought to myself "boy, I'm fishing the wrong side". A few dinks later, I started to wrap things up. I went to the spot I started at and finally got a quality fish. 2 lbs, 13.5 oz and 17.5" long. Nothing to celebrate too much, but when you're struggling to break the 1 lb. threshold it's a good fish. Catch came at 6:37 and sunset was at 6:38, so that fish marked the end of my 2nd best numbers outing of the year...all in 2.5 hours.

Everything was caught on a gold bladed Chatterbait. After my first bite, I lost the claws to my last normal go-to trailer and had to go with a Space Monkey in GP/red flake. Must have been the ticket for the little guys. This was the first time I've seen evidence of the fall feed, several of the little guys were extremely chubby.

Looks like plenty of action going on over there. I need to get out that way before the big chill comes.

Great session! Anytime you get bass thumb bank fishing you know it was a good day! What craw you use for your trailer? I've been using anything strike king myself. Bought a package of Yum craw papi, I think it's called that, and the action look terrible. Has good reviews but my confidence is low in Yum now. Berkeley chigger craw is solid too. Lots of action.

Killer. I mentioned I had a good numbers day for bass over the weekend and it seems to be an area wide bite and reading a couple reports now. Why can't fishing always be like that.

My go-to, unfortunately, has been a Googan Baits Krackin Kraw in Blue Baby. It's a GP dominated color with a blue pearl belly. On a GP Chatterbait or Swim jig, it looks just like the fins of some bluegill in the water. Whatever scent they use is excellent too, kinda a Licorice smell that just flat out doesn't go away. I've gotten lucky and have caught a dozen fish on one trailer before and by the time the claws get nipped off it still leaves the scent on my fingers. I had a 3 month subscription to Monster Bass box that always came with a bag of Strike King creature baits. Can't say I wouldn't use em again, they look good and catch fish.
