12-29 Leaping smallie in December? Yep

Got together with Urb & Mike in Plainfield Sunday. Damn how often can you comfortably fish in Late December? Day started off great, we were catching bass within the first couple of casts. Jerks, glides and A-rig’s. Thought it was going to be a great day. Ended up being lots of smallish bass in the 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 range maybe one largemouth pushing 3. I think we all thought we’d end up with some more photo worthy LM’s but by the end of the day we had zero pics of largemouths.

In the afternoon after Urb left around 1, the Pike were going insane. Crazy hits and crazy fights nothing big but fun 24-28” size. Mike and I caught them all on glides. I was throwing the new Storm Arashi Glide for the first time and it’s a Pike magnet. The highlight of my day was throwing a MegaBass Vision 110+1 over the top of some deeper boulders and got hammered by a 4lb 4oz smallie. She actually jumped twice and cleared water one of the times...shocking for the cold water temp. Water temps ranged between 38 and 41.5. Fish weren’t any more active in the warmer water. We just had to find them. For December 29th it was a blast of a day. Oh, two of the Pike bit the side of the boat and held on for quite a while. We laughed laughed our butts off. Mike’s let go right as he was taking a photo. Credit to Urb for taking a great photo of my smallie. Probably the coolest fish pic I have

Killer small jaw. I got in 38 degree water today and hammered dozens of bass. Numbers were insane.
Nature and shit.

Some grecian formula, a steady, reliable source of carbs, & people would forget all about Billy Westmoreland!

But seriously,
Thats a great smallie anytime, let alone late Dec..

I laughed the first time Dave put me on to em. I was using Rapalas, Livetargets, and Yamamoto jerks at the time. I bought one of those on a whim and I will not turn back. So much less torque and the lightest pop you do with the rod you will get a great dart action. Jerkbait fishing almost always resulted in sore muscles the next day for me, but they've really changed cold water power fishing to something I can do all day long. Worth every penny.
