Social distancing at the East Branch Preserve

Postby Rambler » Mar Thu 26, 2020 10:20 am

Drove out there yesterday to check out "new" water. Thought I might be able to try the EB but after looking it over I realized it ain't much of a river there.

So I fished both lakes. When I went over to the smaller one I disturbed some homeless types who skedaddled when I showed up. Wonder if it was their attempt at social distancing or if they just wanted privacy.

Started with a Keitech on a 1/4 oz jig head. Nothing. Tied on a wacky worm & fished really slow. Still nothing. Moved to a spinner bait and finally to a square bill. Nope, nope.

Beautiful day for a nice, long walk. There were quite a few people out but most were doing their best to keep their distance. There were also 2 - 3 other guys welling lines. They were getting skunked too.

My best friend hit a spot out near him - a McHenry Cty FP. He got skunked as well.
Keep calm and fish on...

It was those Aqualung creeps. They had fish on their hands, on their faces and down their sloppy fronts and didn't want you to see what they were munching on.

Nice effort Rambler and decent weather for a walk about.

Not sure that sushi fanatics are the problem but that remains to be seen.

You're putting in work on that stream and I feel the fishing gods will smile on you with a nice lunker or two this season.

So many good looking spots on that Dupe. I always see a couple of fly fishing guides lugging their boat up & down the bank along the bridge at Canton Farm. They kind of just park along Lily Cache rd at the bridge on the grass or gravel area. I see someone there every weekend. The spot looks killer between the confluence with Lily Cache Creek and the rip rap that smallies love on the two bridges there.

I figured I'd try and coax some retired guy into checking it out for me because the only time I'm in the area is while I'm on the clock for work. It's right off 55 which makes it an easy drive.
