Have not been out at Busse since early July, and the summer weeds.
Upper 70s, mostly cloudy, SW 10+ down to 5 to calm,1-2' of vis, almost 2' of extra water and dropping 6" while there, I'd guess less than 5% of the normal surface weeds this time of year. With the 2' of extra water, it's like fishing March weeds.
Spent the first two hours casting and trolling a J-13 an JSSR-7 an SSR5 and a FR5 and didn't find a thing, except running over some unexpected and new underwater structure.
It appears the Eagles like the highest point of Cormorant island, as I've seen one of them multiple times perched there scanning the area.
The bay was wide open, no surface weeds, 1st stump floating with some birds on it, 2nd hidden under the water. Two fishing yaks already there.
New area requires new lures. Back to basics, -1 and spinners. 5 minutes and the -1 scored a 14' 1.4lb Bass, stuck and lost the next heavier one after a short fight and then boated a 17" 2.6lber in the first 20 mins.
Wind got calm and had two short periods of a couple of minutes of mist and drizzle. Moved around and got a 16' 2 lber on a spinner and missed two more and one on the -1 and ended the day with another 14" 1.4 lber on the -1.
2nd half better than the 1st with 4 out of 5 and a few missed. Good start to fall, even saw the start of some color in the trees.
