Broke Down Delavan Post

Postby FishinMatt » Jul Mon 13, 2020 11:59 pm

I currently am broke down with a shredded trailer tire a little bit North of Harvard. 1130 pm on a Monday night. The Jack in the Tahoe is not up for the job, and unfortunately I left my little hydraulic jack in the garage. Probably a good thing anyways as I almost got run over several times in my feeble attempt to change it. So now I sit and wait for a little roadside assistance dispatched from the McHenry County SO.

So how was the fishing on Delavan one might ask? Well, it was supposed to be a pike trip, but the bass ended up stealing the show. I was out last Thursday on the last day of vacation and we just destroyed the pike. It got to the point of being ridiculous. Throw in a walleye and smallie and it was about perfect. I thought i would repeat the same tonight during the evening shift, but it did not quite happen like last trip. Still ended up being 20+ pike, but not too many big ones. The best thing I did was make an odd cast on the weedline with a weighted soft plastic. I lucked onto a school of largemouth the last hour and had some fun. So as I continue to wait for some assistance, I will upload some pics for your enjoyment.

Update...now about midnight. A deputy happened to drive by and stopped. For whatever reason, dispatch never called a tow for me. Now i guess there is one coming....wtf.

Update....still waiting.....glad I am off tomorrow.....

while I am still waiting....a little fish porn from the trip before this one. My buddy had never caught a pike so I did my best to put him on some good fish.

Wow pike party again!

Sux about the tire. I've blown my share of trailer tires while driving the semi. I would say on average it's about 3hrs for a road assistance contractor to show up. Doesn't matter if I'm in the cornfields of Indiana or on the Dan Ryan in Chicago. Once they get there they can change a truck tire in 10mins or less and get you rolling again. But the 3hr wait sux!
Nature and shit.

Aux, it took the guy about 10 minutes to change, so you are correct. After convincing the nice young lady at Casey's to make a pizza for me, I finally rolled in a little after 2AM. Cleaned up the boat this morning and now off to get a replacement tire.

It was weird. Most of them I have caught this year have been clean. Last night it seemed many had the sores.

bummer about the tire. I think you spoiled you buddy and he is going to think that a bunch of giant pike is normal. Good work out there.

Great outing, except the tire. I used to carry a HiLift/Farm jack with me all the time when towing a trailer. Simple mechanical operation and never let me down.

Of course, real Hulkamania guys would have just lifted the trailer and changed the tire. :P

Hulk lives in the Clearwater, FL area I am told. Maybe he will sign your shirt. One time, we were in the area on vacation. Saw him doing a promo at a T-shirt shop. I did not see a Hulkamania.
