With the implementation of a bass catch and release season, and 4 consecutive days of 70+ early April weather, it was a perfect day to chase some early season bass on Delavan.

In typical early spring fashion the morning was very slow, but the afternoon/early evening bite was on fire. Besides a few jerkbait fish early it was all plastics in the warmest water we could find.

My 9 year old Maddy was my partner today and she did a great job sticking with things for several hours in the morning when things were slow. At the end it was just ridiculous action and clicker hit 55 for the day.

I could get used to this new bass season as I only saw a few other boats out for them.

Thanks guys. It was a rare opportunity to fish water that warm before the start of the regular season in May. I wish I could have fished yesterday or today too. I think the cooler temps coming up will push them back out again for awhile.

Solid fish and those numbers are nuts. Agreed warmest water is the key.
To fish or not to fish......that's a stupid question.

Thanks guys. Experience on any body of water makes a big difference. Knowing what areas heat up the fastest and the general areas the fish will congregate eliminates so much wasted time. It has been almost 20 years since I saw John Gillepsie filming a show there in basically a foot of water and smashing fish after fish. That opened my mind to really look at some of those areas and learn how the bottom composition and the wind affect the water temps there not only on a day to day, but hour by hour basis. I've also had some great partners over the years that have put a crazy amount of time on the water and have found some awesome patterns. It really is just a matter of figuring out which one is working on a particular day.
