Delavan Recap 2015

Postby coyote » Nov Tue 17, 2015 5:28 pm

Delly was a down year for Pikes ...my worst year ever in 18 years or so, cant answer why. Largies were strange i caught as many Bass as any year .....but the size was off only a few 5lbers. The weight of a 18inch fish just seemed to be less than most years. The fish that was a great surprise was the Smallies , i am a bit giddy to say i called this a year ago. Just seemed like they were on the rise, and to say i personally caught better Smallies on Delly than Geneva would not. have seen that coming. Heres a few nice BassImageImageImage
Smallies were beautiful fish got many early in year , sorta stopped fishing Delly by August for the most part.ImageImageImageImageImageImage

Chatterbaits , senkos, spinners and topwaters got 90% of all the fish. Heres the old man with one of the better Pikes Imageof the year,
The year by all accounts was average poor Pike fishing , but Smallies evened things out, now lets hope those Largies get back to normal. Thanks to Matt, Frankie, Dirty Larry, Adam, and Wild Bill for being my partners out there.

Thanks for the recap Mike. For me, it was a down year overall. Like you bass numbers were about the same as previous years but size weight was down. Also some of the great spots of years past were not holding many fish. Pike size was also way down. Got into a ton on jerkbaits early in the season but never found many big ones. For the first time in forever I don't remember catching an incidental walleye. Smallies were good and I actually targeted and caught a few in deeper water. I am already looking forward to May.

You really know that lake well and it shows in all the quality fish you catch. Well done yote!

Sline was there for less than a week if i recall. Water was dinghy 2 times that i remember this year and both times it hurt the shallow bite i enjoy so much. All Bass caught normally in 1 to 5 feet mostly cruisin a shoreline seawall.....they just love that gravel and a seawall.

Awesome real variety, wondering how you've done with walleye on delavan or if you have even ever targeted them. I saw a video a while back of some pretty hefty 20's being caught.

Delly has a very good Walleye population. Used to use live bait years ago and catch them . Now dont really fish for them. The only time i fish for them is in May and June . Matt showed me a good lure and area to get them over the last few years.
