N.E. Illinois Stream Report Feb 11 2017

Sunny, calm, air temps 58, water temps 38, clarity 14" green stain, usgs 2.55, fished a few locations for 4 hrs, bank fished, threw a 1/8oz keeperhook with a Erie Darter Jr black/blue into dead slack protected areas with rock, wood, muck bottoms, slow bottom ticking retrieve, 2 smallmouth, 14".

First trip of season. Quite warm for Feb. Two bites. Two cookie cutter fish. Looked nice fat and healthy. Bank running endurance needs some work. Pretty winded. Ran into a buddy that stated the week or so before had been decent, with the higher flows.

Haven't fished the k3 in years. Maybe this is the year I go back.

2.96? You must be in a downstream section then, no?
That is the pool I typically fish. I've only caught a few smallies this year but I've been lucky enough to get in to a walleye bite on nearly every outing so far.

I'm looking forward to this warm spell coming up. It seems to get the minnows active along the bank and turn the eyes on.

Still a solid fishery. While not as good and healthy as 10-20 years ago, it has stabilized somewhat.

Not much on the walleyes. Run into a few here and there while bass fishing. I guess I would be downstream. Depends on what one considers upstream/downstream. I have always used the Wilmington usgs.

Activity level of Feb., even though its feels like March. Soon. Need some warmer water temps with sunny days to get the numbers moving.

Nice work and fish. I was wading today too on the Kank. I chalk it up to conditioning. I had no luck. A buddy landed some monsters (pike and smallies) from a quick float earlier today. It's almost time.......Nice work

I don't fish it as much in the past. Stick a little closer to home.

A few reports from last week that I got from some local sources said the bite was really good Tue/Wed. Pretty low and very clear for this time of year. Bass get spread out some, at these levels and temps. Need some rain.
