Went out early yesterday on the Kankakee for about 6 hrs with some old friends. We were out before the heat & storms, caught a total of 13 smallies for the 4 of us. Started slow with only 1 coming before 9. We floated the river on drift boats (we hired Grab Your Fly Charters), 3 of us were fly fishing, 1 spin casting. Fish ranged from about 4" to 18" (measured on bump board). The 18"er put up a good fight with a couple of jumps & runs. He did not want to come to hand. All but 2 subsurface on muddler variations. Also saw a couple of bald eagles, a beaver, a fawn, a lot of herons & vultures. All in all a good day.
Biggest fish is pictured.
