Been looking for an apartment in the Wilmington, Braidwood, and Coal City area. I stop by the Wilmington dam
to stretch my legs and take a look around. Right now the river is as low as I've ever seen it. Drought conditions
there the same as up by Chicago. July has been dry after a wet June. River yo-yo's up and down. Way down now.
If you're planning a trip I'd hold off. The only thing to gain is seeing the bottom structure exposed for when we
get some rain again. And the Wilmington South island park is prohibited from any fishing near the dam due to
drownings in recent years from people trapped in the hydraulics by getting to close to the dam itself.
On the other hand, if you know the holes, they're probably packed with fish. I don't know anything about
launching a boat any where around the river as I shore fish. The city of Kankakee is undergoing a building boom.
Where I used to see the river, now there's a five story building next to another and another. Park land replaced
by commercial property, sad to see.
