IL River 3/27-3/28

Postby FishinMatt » Mar Fri 29, 2019 2:54 pm

It's been about 15 years between IL river trips so when a guy from work asked, I said what the hell, let's do it. We fished out of Starved Rock and mainly jigged minnow and Gulp anywhere from 14-20 feet. We ended up keeping 5 solid keepers each day, with lots of short fish. Also some bonus white bass and a small flathead. I forgot how fun the river can be and it is only about an hour from the house.

Good stuff, Matt! I haven't fished there in years either. Any flying carp?

Nice outing(s)
Similar to what you describe, I used to fish the IL a fair amount in the late 90s-early2000s' & not sure why I stopped, was a good spot to catch a bunch of fish.

Thanks guys. Jason, lots of dead ones floating up by the dam, but nothing jumping or making a ruckus. Water temps still mid 40s, so maybe too cold for them to be active.

Cletedius, not sure why I stopped either. Good sauger fishing is not too common and it is right in the back yard.

I always thought saugers were a bad ass looking fish. Those are some beauties!

Matt if you ever need a partner on the deck or just to split gas let me know! Hope to have my own rig next year and the IL is on my list of regular stops!
