Ice fishing IG

Postby DasGoby » Dec Wed 15, 2010 1:40 pm

The ice fishing reports on this board for IG have been pretty negative. Still, I can't help thinking that getting to fish the south bay should be great.

Does anyone have anything to declare on ice fishing IG from years past that you'd like to share or better yet a report from this week?

I'd be really interested in this too. There is a lot of great structure in that lake that can't be reached from shore. I'll bet ice fishing there could be really good.

There is a lot of great structure, Jason but you aren't allowed to fish most of it. You can only fish the South Bay where the Beach/Cafe is if I remember correctly. I am going to try it out a few times this winter though once it opens up now that I'm learning to ice fishing.

Yes it is C&R and it is only the south bay. On the other hand, we've all salivated at the huge bass and channel cats that roam by the boat launch.

If anyone is interested in meeting up there let me know. I'm taking next week off and plan on doing a couple ice excursions with my boy. I'm looking at possibly going Saturday, Monday, Thursday, or Friday.

I'd be interested! I have more faith in pulling a catfish from the ice there than I do those elusive big bass there.

I think I am going to hit up IG tommorrow morning to get in some ice time before going out to Mallard on Saturday so that I can try to not look like too much of a newby ice fisherman on Saturday.

Don't worry, you are gonna look like a newbie... All those jingle bells you will be hearing will be my tip up going off... If the noise gets annoying, I suggest wearing a good set of earmuffs... I will send the northern down the hole with a message to tell others to visit...

If I'm not the one to be catching them and I don't expect to, I hope that is true Mike! This season is my season to learn, Any results are just a bonus!

You will get yourself some fish... I have all the electronic bells and whistles... We will find them... IG sounds like another option for later in the year though... Will have to put IG on the "to do" list...

Well, I was out there for 2 hours this morning. Ice was about 6-7" thick, plenty of weeds down below just couldn't find fish. On the plus side atleast I got to get out on the ice again and setup some tipups for the first time.

You will "break the ice" tomorrow... Gonna be cold so dress warm... Breezy too by all indications...

Yeah that was the other reason I got out today for a couple hours was to test my boots and other stuff for warmth.

Cold, hi pressure, blue skies, I'm not surprised you didn't have much luck. I was out at one location on the chain last year just a couple days apart. The first day was none stop action. The 2nd day was like today and we only caught 10 gills between 3 of us over 8 hours.

Not sure tomorrow will be an improvement but good luck, I may go out but may wait until Monday.

Just wanted to bump this thread, I still haven't made it out to try IG but I'm curious if anyone else has tried it this winter?
