Kerr Lake 12-27-19

Postby joetrain » Dec Fri 27, 2019 3:03 pm

Launched the yak again this morning at Kerr Lake in Virginia. It’s about a 30 mile ride for me from my house in NC but so far this lake has been paying off. Catching fish, nice ramps and my NC license is good here in Virginia because the lake borders both states. Instead of having to purchase both licenses the 2 states licenses are reciprocal. How’s that for southern hospitality.

Slow day out there today. Total fog when I launched prevented me from finding the area I fished previously. I had to rely on my electronics. I got pretty close though.

I only caught one blue cat today. I caught it on a shad that I had foul hooked earlier. I’d guess it went about 8 lbs. The surprise was I hooked into 3 stripers and landed 2. All three were caught on a Heddon Sonar. I used to hate that lure but this last month it has been money. Gotta get me some more of those bad boys.

This could be it for me for 2019. Might get out Monday but I will have to see how the forecast looks.

Happy New Year.

Hell YEAH! I bet those gave you a good tug. It'll be fun to hear about you hooking one of those 30lb stripers and getting towed around for awhile. Happy New Years Joe

Cool! I agree with Ron G. Thanks for posting even after you moved away! I hope to catch a striper some day.

In fact, you've inspired me. I recently retired and I've been in Corpus Christi Texas for a couple months to escape the Chicago winter. I caught several saltwater fish from shore (speckled trout and others I don't even know what they are!).

I'll post photos in this folder. Thanks for the inspiration!

Stripers are great sport fish. I'm starting to get cabin fever already.

Wow, that looks fun.
I know what you mean about blade baits. Theres several things I dislike about throwing them but lack of results is not 1 of them, I should throw them more than I do.
