Finally got out....

Open water that is. Been off for 7 days and haven't casted once till today.

Bridge bouncing and vienna dog eatn. Should have just phoned in a pizza at Marie's on Lawrence and Pulaski instead. As the wife explains there is never a winner in the bout of a chocolate oreo shake versus a 1lb brown paper bag full of grease and fries, digestively speaking of course. Dam you Susie's and your 24hr drive thru.

Lost more fish than I caught just trying to lift them into odd places with odd angles from surrounding brush. Otherwise I would say bite is good. Even managed to get 'gobie' skunked. Thank god.

All day with the green and silver panfish assasin. Perfect presentation today, crappie mags stayed under the mattress for next time. 8)

Tail bitten off, most likely an alligator as there numbers have been increasing on the waterway.

Slabs or walleyes. I could look at pics of them all day and night.

Nice!

If you bit that crappie's tail off to make 1 fish caught look like 2, that's pretty desperate. I'll take your word that you didn't do that. :sarcasm:

Nice fish. Way to get out during the time between ice fishing and open water time when the fish won't be expecting you.

Back in the 60s a friend swore he saw a 3-4 ft long gator in Skokie Lagoons. Be careful out there! :D

How come the Chicago?

Managed waterway in terms of flow/height.

Don't get me wrong, I love my dpr skunks. The dpr is running too high for January. Its murky and too fast in some places. Typical of late winter, not January. However, there are large pike still eating away and waiting to get plunked on the head by my lure. The chocolate milk stain totally decreases my odds. White bass and crappie are much easier to catch in this stain, but I'd have to get my kayak out and hunt around for them. Wind and windchill has been pushing me away from attempting. Air temp for kayaking for me is 20+. Its the wind that makes it worse and scares me.

If I went out in my canoe at 20+ my legs would probably lock up & it would be a bitch getting back out.

Very nice Aux! Right in my backyard. Those are some nice crappies. Gotta get over there.
