Out again today, same basic approach. Results were better in some areas. Still lifeless in others. About a dozen crappie and a few tiny bluegill. Early Spring coming, might have to abandon the River earlier than usual this year.

This bluegill is among the smallest and darkest colored I've seen...

Looks like maybe a small green sunfish. Nice slab you got there.

Yes, a green sunfish it is. It is not in the shape of a bluegill. And look at that big mouth...you'd never see that on a gill.

Your crappie pics are killing me. Very nice!

Whats wrong, Wetwader? Did you not have a place to stand?? Lol. Nah, I hear ya. That's what 2 reports in a 3 year span will do I guess. People are desperate to flock there when in reality it's a far cry from what it was 5-10 years ago.

Nice redfish, though I take it that's not the river? You never know with people now days dropping their gators in there. I remember the multiple talapia reports back in the day!!

I'm guessing this report is from around River Park or farther South.

Years ago when I worked for a company in Niles I used to fish at lunchtime along the North Branch South of Dempster. A lot of folks laughed at me but I caught quite a few little bass up there. They probably get washed down from Skokie Lagoons.

I'd actually like to go back & try again one of these days. Nothing big but lots of fun anyway - it's a really nice stretch of woods.
Keep calm and fish on...

Nope, north (upstream).

Speaking of river park, here's what it used to look like....

Cool pictures - makes you wonder what it looked like before the dam & the Northshore channel.

The biggest snapping turtle - by far - I ever saw was lying on a mud bank along the North Branch just South of Touhy. It was a monster. After seeing it I decided to never go wading in that river.

Da inna-net. The first pic blows my mind, there's not one house or apartment in the background.
