who's hunting this season?

Anyone have hunting plans this season? Species, general locations, tactics, equipment used?

I'll be hitting the woods pretty hard next week in West Central Illinois. The plan is simple, the task is not; drop a big fat buck.

I shot 4 dove at silver springs this year. Does that count? Other than a pheasant hunt at Seneca Hunt Club that is about it for me.

Archery season for deer opens October 1st and runs to mid January. Firearm season is November.

Not I, though, UH. I don't hunt, honestly. I'm always willing to trade some fish for some venison, though.

I'm always on the hunt for beaver, just won't be taking badger75 along. He doesn't seem to find the lively ones.

Otherwise, just hunt a few chipmunks and squirrel in my backyard... and an occasional stray cat.

Great idea! Or get a Benjamin or Crossman .177 pistol - even more challenging.

I can't stand sweating my butt off in a treestand, getting annihilated by mosquitos. Unless we get a good cold front, I usually don't sit until close to Halloween.

I am definitely jonesing tho to spend some time in a tree and the duck blind again. I feel like this summer has drug on forever

Back to the whole hunting thing. I was planning on fishing the Apple River at the state park Salem location next weekend. But this whole bow hunting thing has made me reconsider.

Correct, you may piss off some bowhunters. However, the thompson unit would be good. there is great parking about 50 yards east of where townsend rd crosses over the river. great fishing spot.

In the front yard, I use rat traps near their tunnels baited with peanut butter... I learned a long time ago to stake them, otherwise ambitious critters will drag them off to eat the catch and I lose the trap.

In the back yard, a Crossman 760 or 2100 makes quick work of them.

I've also parked a running lawn tractor over one of the holes- with a short length of pipe running down from the exhaust into the hole. Let it run for about an hour at half choke- need to do this close to dark so they are all in their tunnels.

A similar method I used years ago, was a length of water spout tube they used to run up to hide. I screened off one end, so when they ran in there, I would take the piece off the down tube and put the open end over the tailpipe of my running truck... That was way back when gas was a lot cheaper though.

For chippies: I bought a Hav-A-Heart trap for $22. at hardware store. Bait with raw, in shell peanuts. Then take for a long ride to FP on other side of river.
Other methods mentioned sound rather effective. In my neighborhood, gun option not the best.
