Lake O slaunch donkey, 5/30

Postby Brandon » May Tue 30, 2017 6:10 pm

Got out for a quick trip this morning to Opekachobee. Post-Memorial Day calm was a nice change. Sunny and about 70 degrees. Figured things might pick up after some recent consistency in the air and water temp. Picked up a nice bass before the winds got too outrageous. This lake has been relatively slow for me so far this year, much more so than the last couple. Gentleman nearby ran over and didn't understand why I wouldn't give him the fish...

Massive! Even bigger after I marked 21" with a ruler from the desk drawer. :)

Awesome pig! Maybe you should wear an ICE hat to keep some of the Opeka bucketheads away. It's very frustrating and depressing to think that's what you have to deal with when fishing public pressured waters and now this meathead is inspired by your success and is motivated to fish Opeka sometime and keep nice ones.

Awesome hook up amigo!! So stoked for you.

Yeah it's been slow for me this year as well... like you I was happy to hook one of size out there. Then I too had a woman ask me to give her the 19"er so she could make it for dinner that night.

That thing is a slob! Damn shame someone would even consider taking a bass that size home. If it's managed to escape the bucketheads this long, we can only hope it continues to.

I had to look it up. At first I figured it was the marine version of a lot lizard.

Tell me about it. I was out there trying a month ago but no dice.

I can't tell actually. The times I've been to Lake O the visibility hasn't been great. I can only say I've seen 1 bed this year and that bass was there last week but gone on Monday when I took a look. Was out on Wednesday and could actually see bluegill beds showing up. Not sure how that relates to the bass doing their thing.
