1/15 .....getting sandy

Postby bassman29 » Jan Sun 15, 2017 9:52 pm

Been a while since a report..... Headed out to sand in hopes of raiding mikes honey hole. Well, that sounded awkward. Met up with some usual suspects as well as some new cast of characters. Great day on the ice.

I personally landed 3 hammer handles (not really picture worthy) and finally my first sand bass which I had to go elbow deep in to land but well worth it.

Big thanks to mike once again for the hospitality and hope others will share some catches.

First sand bass.....

Sweet bass.

You promised you'd never go elbow deep with anyone else.

There were 3 or 4 good sized bass that day with Kevin's 9 o'clock bass being the biggest! Localyokal managed two decent carp on his jigging rod. Basscaster might get the award for furthest tipup that was hit 3 times before the pike decided to hold on enuff to get on the ice (and someone else had to land it). Unfortunately, BPM and myself were skunked on the tipups.

Hey BassMan!

It was great meeting you and the others out on Sand this weekend. Three tiny perch were all I managed to jig up but next time this outing pops up I'll be there with a 12-pack of something quality, a chair to chat from, and a couple of i-Fish Pros so I can join in the flag-chasing fun.

Your largie was the best thing I think came up from the depths to be photographed that day but your grillwork on the ice was delicious!

Those who missed it, missed out. :)

It was a fun day glad to see those that could make it out. Some good action all in all.(Cause it was SUNNY  )

There were 3 Bass caught Kev's monster 4.5 , 3.0 and a 2.9 about 8 or 9 pike mostly hammer handles.
Two fat CARP  through the ice(Mike post the pics) , That was a first for sure.

Weather looks bad the next two weeks so we will see if we can do another outing in FEB.

Mike

Dig the Point cap.
Keep calm and fish on...

There's a fine line between fishing and just sitting there looking stupid

Too bad I had to miss this one. Was the last day to get on the ice for the next few weeks. This warm spell is likely going to eliminate ice altogether on many/most bodies of water. I guess the bonus is I'll be fishing open water on the Illinois River this weekend by boat.
