Somebody flipped the Perch Switch

Postby Aux Pleins » Feb Thu 14, 2019 9:31 pm

Fished this lake many times, so have a lot of my friends and associates and we've never had anything close to these results. Didn't catch a perch under 8 inches, most were 11inches or better. All in all close to 30 jumbos were landed. My son lost double that amount including a monster largemouth at the hole that left me heartbroken. It was his first time on the ice and he definitely brought us the luck.

Perch were caught with a tungsten and smallfat hooked in the back. On a slanted ledge in 12-15fow was where the jumbo school was hanging out. One perch actually inhaled a 4inch golden roach under a tip up in 6fow. That roach was engulfed, with barely a glimpse of the tail in the gullet.

Its gotta be something with pressure or timing. Devils Lake SD, which is known for its jumbos, after having a slow start to their season they're experiencing the hottest jumbo bite they've had all year right now.

The funniest part is the fact that there are perch being stocked in a catch and release only lake...

What more can be said that has not been said already. Have not seen perch like that in a long time. Surprised no crappie yet. That is great that you and the little man got on them. Was that a shanty behind you in the picture, if so just wondering if you checked in to see if he was killing them as well.

That was my shanty. Whole place to ourselves, which is always great.

Funny you mention the crappie, last season Bassman29 and I had a day there were we got into about 20 big crappie. So weird I can't find a single one this season. The quarry is so vast and so deep, you literally have to pray a school swims your way. I could only imagine the awesome fish that would be caught if the whole lake was opened up to ice fishing.
