Looking for slack water/back water North DPR

From the south suburbs to the northwest suburbs, the Des Plaines River provides some excellent fishing opportunities.

Looking for slack water/back water North DPR

I want to try out dead bait fishing and think I need a decent sized slack water area to give it a test try.

Would like to test it out in the Northern area (no pun intended).

Anyone use a dead bait technique? It seems interesting and I think it might be pretty productive.

TIA

I would try the half day pits if I were you. Northwest side of the Half Day Road Bridge.

As far as dead bait is concerned, I can attest to the fact that at times it works better than live bait during ice fishing.
Nature and shit.

Late, late, way late update.

Was up @Half Day pits, went to the one farther away from DPR as the near one seemed pretty dried up. Saw an old timer who said he caught a medium bass on live minnow and 2 guys battling a 15# ish carp successfully.

My dead rig with smelt on it, didn't get a sniff although due to equipment issues it may not have been a fair test.
