DP River finally came through!

From the south suburbs to the northwest suburbs, the Des Plaines River provides some excellent fishing opportunities.

DP River finally came through!

Postby hackfishinman » Mar Thu 18, 2021 12:29 pm

I live near the DP River near Mount Prospect/ Prospect Heights/ Wheeling. It use to be my go-to spot to fish before the took a couple the dams out. I have barely caught anything in this stretch in years. Finally, connected on this guy. Sauger, I presumed. Wish I had cleaned him off, but had to return him quickly to the water.

Welcome to WCF. Nice fish. In the future please try not to put a fish on the ground. It's not good for the fish & raises the odds against them recovering from being caught.
Keep calm and fish on...

Nice to see the saugers. I rarely see them. Congrats!

Thanks for the warm welcomes! I have read for a few years, but haven't posted. Thanks for the tip on having the fish on the ground. I hadn't heard that before.

I've caught more saugers in the DPR than any other species.

Terrible treatment of the fish unless you're keeping it. Decent size. Good to see them migrating further north! Legal migration for a change.

After stocking about quarter million of them you're sure to see a lot more incidental catches.

Here’s my one and only sauger that I caught in the DPR about 5 years ago in Lake County.

I recommend documentary “artifishial,” available on youtube. After watching it, I started questioning some stocking programs.

Heading out to the DPR this morning, but I took a quick look for Artifishal and found this trailer. The full documentary is also available. I want to watch this when I get a chance. Patagonia Films put out some good docs.

Yep, I watched on YouTube. I think all of their documentaries are available there. Damnation is good too.
