I still fish

Postby BrookfieldAngler » Apr Mon 19, 2021 12:05 pm

Hey all! Been a while for certain...

I’ve been putzing around the Dupe occasionally and have put a few bronze backs on the board this year including this fat girl full of eggs. When I hooked her on a t-rigged Ned rig, I thought for sure she was a catfish. I was pleasantly surprised once she showed her colors though!

Admittedly I felt a little bad for interrupting a bedding smallie but not bad enough to forego a photo op though.

Very nice bronzie! I bet she will be no worse for the wear, they are tough.

I've been having some great outings on the west branch lately, in spite of all the damn green scum algae I have to pick off the lure after every cast, way more than usual.

Nice one Nick! I was out with my youngest on Sunday. Seen the beds in some of the skinnier clear water. I was able to hook three by sight fishing. I didn't feel bad, smallies on the Dupe are like cockroaches man. Everywhere and abundant!

Chunk! Man spring went by fast on the rivers if they're bedding up. Seems just yesterday that there was snow on the ground. The stable water levels have probably resulted in the spawn, we've barely had any rain all month. Need some to scour out that algae. Eel grass gonna be bad this year I'm thinking too.

Yeah the algae is already pretty bad. I had some earlier success (late march'ish) with the Ken G white grub special but then every single cast was catching the green crap. Basically, if the fish didn't hit as soon as it hit the water, the cast was useless. I like the t-rigged ned rig with a nail weight because when it pops into the open pockets, the hits happen pretty reliably. As the season continues, I'll switch to tubes with the same mindset...drift in and out of open pockets.

Spent 3 hours on the WB yesterday. Skunked. Nice day though.
Keep calm and fish on...

There's a fine line between fishing and just sitting there looking stupid

Nope - just sticking to the basics when I have a little bit of time to kill. Too much going on to commit to constant big outings.

Good lookin' brownie. I jogged over the WB the other day and it is completely bogged down with the nasty green stuff, water very low. Need a good flushing.
