Closing out October

Postby jmdog2003 » Oct Sun 28, 2018 6:33 pm

Bookend extremes to this month. Really high water to start, miserably low water to end. But temps have been stable and the fish stay hungry when that's the case. I've been wandering about a 250 yards stretch of river stopping to fish holes and adjacent water. The fish have been pretty aggressive actually, willingly coming up in the water column to tackle a lure. A mixed bag all month. This wraps up my second best fishing month ever, not a huge surprise given the extended time off for my fishcation. But my catch rates were quite good with around 4.5 fish landed per hour. Had a couple bite/break offs and a few lost fish to bent out hooks as well.

Been getting quite a few dupies or dopies or whatever that RonG fellow calls them.

Almost squished this guy. He didn't even budge.

Nicely done. Rivers are coming down nicely to salvage what's left of the fall bite.

No, no, no. Not dopies. That would be an insult to maybe the most beautiful looking fish species in North America and a quite clever one too. We might have to go with 'DuRappies' as Aux P. has claimed 'DRappies for his river's crops.

Great way to close out the month. If I recall, the early part of the month was tough out there for you. Some chunks mixed in there, nice! I've been replacing some of my trebles with the Gamakatsu G-Finesse nano coated trebles. Too expensive to do a wholesale swap with all my treble hook lures but if you have several go to baits that you use a lot, they're exceptionally sharp and strong...like a 34" pike hit your jerkbait at the boat with 4' of line out and not bend the hooks out strong.

Good to hear you're getting consistent action! I had my vacation in October with plans of fishing a lot, but ended up going out of town. Hopefully the weather stays stable through at least the early part of November!

Fart.

Me 3. Although I moved away, the Dog's posts gave me the confidence to try the Dupe out when I was still in Chi-land.

Nice post. You're a swashbuckler for wearing white pants in the mud.
