I'm not going to switch it up until the fish tell me to. They're blasting topwater all over the river right now and the time of day doesn't seem to matter. Saturday I hit a stretch on the east branch that was maybe 1/2 mile long. It was far enough up the branch that I was getting a mix of largemouth and smallmouth. The other thing that was active were the mosquitoes. I got mauled while hiking there. After exhausting that spot, I hit another stretch that was about as long on the main stem. I haven't even been bringing anything but a Whopper Plopper with me.

Even got a "I'm gonna run to the store, honey" west branch smallie.

Sunday I decided to play by ear. Couldn't decide on a plan so I didn't bother with one. Just jumped in on the east branch and was gonna let the fish decide what I was going to do. Fish were even more aggressive this morning. As it turned out, I basically just kept wandering downstream. Every spot that looked good was good. Multiple fish hit the lure more than once until hooked. I had a couple chase the lure coming in so hot it looked they were going to come right up on shore after the lure if I lifted it out. I figured why bother wasting time driving to a new put in area? S curves with rock/gravel bars and any depth whatsoever were loaded with smallmouth and I stopped to fish these places thoroughly.

This one hit midstream looking directly into the rising sun at 6:00 a.m sharp.

I'd say I covered two miles of river I've never seen before. There's still a ton of water to explore by me even after ten years of fishing this river.

Inspiring JDog. Sounds like you had a blast. Phil and I got out on the Duper a couple weeks ago and although it was a micro outing, it was a blast wading around at dusk. Wasn’t real fond of wading with water up to my armpits haha but on a mid-90’s day it sure felt good.

Well done. The dupe looked very inviting the other day when I drove over it in Naperville.

nice work dog. i floated the west branch yesterday. both the large and small kind were whacking buzzbaits at peak sun. in the trickle section i was floating, i was able to watch the whole show as they darted out from log jams to inhale the bait.

I tried the dupe in Naperville today.. couldn't locate them at McDowell but pulled out a few dink smallies just upstream of the dam.. I took a pic of one but it will look like a goby compared to jmdogs catches.. I always struggle shore fishing the dupe

Nice! I'm rolling out to the west branch as soon as I finish my coffee. I'll be throwing just topwater from the looks of it!

Planning to hit the West Branch next Tues. afternoon. Hope they're still hitting.
