When the water has been low, the fish have been blasting topwater all summer. Once the river shot up, a KVD swimjig with a paddle tail has been mopping up. Until I threw mine into a tree anyway.

The dreaded goby. I gotta start mixing that pattern into my rotation.

I almost died wading high water to the spot where these next two were holding. So I made them take pictures with me.

I swear those gobies will hit any lure you throw out there.. annoying little pigs.. glad you got your smallie fix.. not looking too good for fishing the river now.. I was out Saturday morning before the second monsoons and it was rough then.. could only imagine now.. did get one largie hit on a rage menace near the bank but spit it out on a jump :(

It's in my avatar holding up the rear braugh :D That color is Donko, my favorite. Hard as hell to throw in the Dupage with all the eel grass. Though I'm sure J-dog knows all the hard bottom holes where they'd be deadly. If you buy some JD, go heavy if you want them working on bottom. They're really slow sinking and lift while retrieving. People always make the mistake of getting the 1/4 & 3/8oz models and complain they can't keep them working near bottom. Though those work fine for swimming higher in the column. I use 1/2oz for depths 6' and under and 3/4 for about everything else
