Excellent fishing opportunities in the western suburbs.

I'm thankful for biting smallmouth

Looks like the smallies were ready for a Thanksgiving feast too. Tied on a jig with a Goby pattern Gulp and stuffed it with bread crumbs.

Brown bass were loving it. Very few light taps, mostly solid thumps.

I did miss what looked like the two biggest fish of the outing due to missed hooksets. These fish actually did only slightly tap it. There was so much debris floating in the river from the high winds that I got a bit complacent if I didn't feel a good thump. Got them to the surface before they shook off. Really painful this time of year when there are outings you may only contact one or two fish.

But good numbers on this day. Plenty of open water bass still available in 2019.

Awesome holiday outing Dog, you always manage to find some beauties.

Your success makes me regret not getting out there this weekend, all I stuffed was my face...

Very cool Jim! I guess that's one of the few pluses for urban rivers there is some warmer water influx from pipes and plants keeps things just warm enough they are still biting.

Nice cold water outing. Good to see you're still getting them to bite
