East Branch 3/14

Late post. Hit the East Branch near Dupage River Park in Bolingbrook and was able to land my first smallie of 2021. Got it on a black Nikko Hellgrammite rigged on a red colored ned head.

I’ve never used a red ned head but it looks damn good. I’ll have to give it a try. Very nice!

Nice! The Nikko Hellgrammite seems like a cool bait. I've read a lot and seen several videos about it.

I've never tried it though. In clear water, I could definitely see using it. But I have zero confidence with it in the stained water and strongish current of the Fox, where I mainly fish. It has no flash, no scent, no vibration, not a lot of movement. I can't convince myself that smallies could find it.

I like the red ned head idea though. That may help in the Fox. I may give it a try this year.

Congrats! Love seeing beautiful Smallies on the East branch!
To fish or not to fish......that's a stupid question.

My stompin' grounds. I live about 4 min. from that spot. How do you like that Shimano Vanford? Is that the 2500?

One of my favorite stretches to fish, especially in colder water. But Yeah you're correct it's a 2500 Vanford. I love it, my new favorite reel. Been a Daiwa guy for years but I've been an impulsive buyer for longer. Great reel
