Yesterday I hit the main branch of the Dupe at Hammel Woods. Spent a few hours wading. All I have to show for it is a lost lure.
I sat on a log for a while & listened to the woods. The migration is beginning. There were redwings calling, a cardinal singing and across the river, a song sparrow sang (what else?) No other signs of life accept for some traffic noise on Rte 52.
After a while I packed up and headed for the little creek that flows under the I&M west of Channahon. On my way to the creek from the parking lot & tossed a small, pink jig with a white twister into the canal. Caught a nice, little bass on my 2nd cast. A couple casts later I landed a nice crappie. Didn't take pics since my camera was in a waterproof bag & I was feeling lazy. Then I got ambitious and got it out just in case I caught another. A few cast later another bass took it and then a bit later another crappie. Got shots of both of them.
Walked on down to the creek which was in full flow. Spent a few more hours wading upstream without any luck. This is only the 2nd time in many, many years I've been skunked in that creek.
On my way back to the car I spotted someone's discarded commode laying in the woods. Now why on earth would they do that? I guess they just couldn't give a shit.
Later while driving through Channahon I spotted what is probably the only Chrysler PT Cruiser I've ever thought made sense. Except for the ones already in junkyards of course.
Good day all around.

Keep calm and fish on...
There's a fine line between fishing and just sitting there looking stupid
