Nice Salt Creek LMB

There are seemingly endless amounts of rivers, creeks and their tributaries throughout northeast Illinois.

Nice Salt Creek LMB

Postby Rambler » Apr Sat 17, 2021 12:57 pm

We were having a new floor put in our kitchen so I hit the creek for a few hours yesterday afternoon.

Started out with my usual go-to, a pinkish twister on a 1/16 green jig. No takers. So I tied on a red & white crappie tube on a white jig with a safety pin spinner. That seems to have been the deal - caught 3 bass almost right away. The 2nd one might be the biggest I've caught on Salt Creek - just over 12". Fat too.

First one to suggest it's a smallie wins the putz of the week award.

Yes sir! I'm liking the bass opportunities we have upon us here in late April.

Nice catch!

Seems as we're due for a disruption though as there is snow on the forecast for Tuesday

Is this a typical size for the Salt Creek?

Nice! I'm not familiar with Salt Creek, but (based on the background in your photo), it looks like a fun place to wade or fish from shore.

That's the largest mouth SC chub I've ever seen. :D

No. Most are smaller. Many are dinks. Anything around 10" is a nice fish.

Wading is illegal in Cook Cty. But it remains a fun place - not for quality but fine for quantity. Great place if you're not particular about your species.

Yanker - you narrowly avoided winning the putz of the week award by suggesting it's a chub & not a smallie. Nice going. :D
