Gonna take an ocean of calamine lotion

Venturing into the great outdoors throughout Chicagoland. More that just fishing - hiking, biking, nature trails, nature centers, geocaching, sights to see, etc., etc.

Gonna take an ocean of calamine lotion

Postby Rambler » Apr Thu 27, 2017 1:38 pm

Took my usual woodland stroll today. Windy & cold - where'd the nice weather go? Stopped to visit the governor and happened to notice some poison ivy growing up the oak I was pissing on. Started looking around and noticed more on other trees.

There was never poison ivy in those woods up until a couple years ago. They spread because some bird species consider their fruit to be delicacies.

Let's be careful out there.
Keep calm and fish on...

Stupid birds! They never learn. Without arms, how do they even scratch their butts when they start pooping out that toxic stuff?

not sure if i hate ticks or ivy more. after my turkey hunt, i was taking a glorious mid day nap before being frantically awoken by a tick crawling on my ass. that was a week ago and i am still thinking every itch on my body is a blood sucking pest.

Good question (I guess) Ron. Gotta say it never occurred to me.

But speaking of which, you know of course that vultures are in a constant state of diarrhea (think about what they eat) and their shit is slightly antibiotic to keep their feet "clean". Interesting ain't it?

Tromped around in shorts in the woods forever and finally got dosed a couple years ago. I always just thought it would be some itchy red rash. WRONG!
Making a point to not let fish interrupt my fishing.

Shorts are for the beach & desert - not the woods.
