Cermak quarry 5-9 & 5-10

Postby Brett » May Fri 10, 2019 9:57 pm

Fished Cermak quarry last night and today. Never been there before this year, pretty interesting contours for a little pond. Wish I had been there with a drop shot before the weeds got going. Slop is already forming in the shallows and the place is crawling with little frogs that don't fear humans. Will definitely be back again soon with topwater stuff but for now it's been a chatterbait slow roll and paused along shallow shelves that has worked. Small bass yesterday and a cat today.

Glad to see someone else exploring CCFPD opportunities.
Keep calm and fish on...

There's a fine line between fishing and just sitting there looking stupid

One of the oldest quarries in Chicagoland. Also where I earned my degree.

Threw the aruku shad exclusively tonight, 6:30 to 8:30 and went 10 for 10, all bass. Same and similar spots as the past few days, just trying to run it parallel to where the internet says the shallow ledges are. One of them was a couple pounds and looked almost ready to spawn, and I caught her and a half dozen small fish I figure were mostly males in the same area.

Also caught this smaller one which was kind of lethargic and I thought might be a spawned out female? Actually caught this one first a bit deeper than the one above.

Trying to understand the science here, did I come across a spawning area, mostly get hit by males guarding nests, but also get a late blooming pre-spawner?

LM bass will be in just about any body of water that doesn't freeze completely solid.

I read it as shocked that there were any bass left due to overfishing but I could be wrong.
To fish or not to fish......that's a stupid question.

I think officially its LMB, Channel cats, Bluegill/green sunfish hybrids, some kind of bullhead and common carp. I can also verify there is a small school of goldfish in there. Legend has it also a ferris wheel and other carnival equipment that used to be in service near the site.
