But I thought even though its an awful pic, the lighting looked kinda cool.
Walleye bite seems to be picking up the last few days. Got this 1 slow-rolling a D.O.A. swimbait on a 1/2oz bullet head. Slightly over 24".

Nice fish and cool picture. The only success I have catching those is at the local fish fry.

If you're only going to get one, that's a good one Pat. Can you link those bullet heads please?

Didnt have time to fish today, but wanted to dump the boat in the water before the influx of googans took control of the public launch ramp tomorrow. The ramp is about 3/8 of a mile from where Im staying. Between the house & the ramp there is a small, open-water area w/ a deep hole that bottoms out about 28'. As I was passing over it, saw a couple marks on the screen that looked fishy. Being pressed for time I did some hardcore rationalizing to make time for a couple casts in passing. The swimbait bite was happening! Picked up four 15-19" fish with a couple cigars, too. All caught on the airhead swimbait on a 1/2oz head, letting it fall down the steep declines. As you could imagine, 5 minutes turned into 45 minutes & I had to leave them biting  .
Hope they stick around for the early a.m..
Some crappy shots of decent fish

God don’t you hate leaving the fish biting? Mike and I had to do that a couple weeks ago because we went out on a work night. Nice eyes Pat

Out for a quickie late this afternoon looking for a couple keeper walleye, & looking for 1 was as close as I got. The water is really starting to transition around here, temps steadily dropping (65 was the warmest I found today), shallow veg is starting to die off, & the traffic on the water has dramatically decreased. Had been finding & catching walleyes pretty decently last week. They seem to be schooling up in deep holes near bridges, neckdowns, in narrow parts of the system. Patiently fishing 1/8 & 3/32 jig/plastic in 22-27' of water had been getting rewarded. I was excited to get out on my own today & go at it hard without "guide" duties. Well, mostly that sucked! A couple of 6" walleye was all that I managed in a couple of hours. On the way back, made a stop in a narrow channel that has a 22' hole that produced some decent fish saturday evening. No walleyes, but I did catch a pile of dandy smallmouth instead! Caught 2 nice 17"ish bass on a jig/plastic on the UL, and then..............I tied on a great big profile 1/4 oz. hair jig! They smacked the sh*t out of that jig until the sun set for the evening. 1/2 of the 10 or so bass I caught were puking up 3"-4" crappies. Nice way to end a rather unproductive afternoon.

Sweet bassisses and yeah, no way I’d have the patience to wait for a 1/8oz jig n plastic to get down 30’ especially in current. Can’t you use a heavier jig? Or if it’s a size thing, tungsten?

You for surely could go heavier, & often, I do. In the above report, once I caught a couple smallies, I bumped it up to a 1/4oz. (Smallies, IMO are the "least-picky" gamefish in N. America :) ).

When I use seemingly light weights in deeper water, (i.e. 1/8oz in 27') its more about speed & buoyancy than size. Wind & current dictate alot of it, too. Often, the more actively the fish are biting, the heavier weight I fish. Its quicker &easier to cover water with a fast sinking bait that needs speed to stay above bottom. When it takes a little coaxing to get a bite, I tend to lighten up my offerings. Often, Im looking for my bait to float or glide (barely) above the bottom instead of bouncing/crashing into it. 1 thing that really helps getting & staying down with light stuff is downsizing my gear. When I feel compelled to fish deep & light I often do so with 4&6lb braid on UL gear if the wind, current, activity level of fish dictate. I think many folks would be surprised how much a 1/8oz jig/plastic can feel like a bowling ball on the end of 4 or 6lb braid on a UL setup, though. Sinks about 12' in 10 seconds & easy to maintain feel at the end of a semi-slack line.

But yes, sometimes it can really try your patience, especially if its windy.

Ill have to go back to FL @ some point, for how long is undetermined, though. I have lived mostly in FL for 7 of the last 10 yrs. I dont dislike it, it has its charms, but Im not sure Id miss it much, either. In a perfect world, a (susainable) plan of nov-may in FL & april-oct near my present latitude is appealing. Will that happen? Probably not, but, im casually looking into how/if that could happen.

Anyway,
Once the A.M. fog lifted, hopped in the boat & ran 5 minutes to where I left off last night. There were still a few around 8) . Caught bass on my 1st 3 casts with the hair jig. On the 4th cast I snagged on a buoy line & last my jig  . Dug out 1 of my remaining peacock jigs & tied on the big profile 1/4oz white/purple bug. Took a few casts but finally stuck a fish, a 12" bass on it. It slowed up for a bit but I thought I probably just wore the small spot out. I was almost right. Caught back to back 13" walleyes! Couple casts later got a 15". Caught a couple more little eyes & 2 more decent bass & rain drops started. Normally, I dont mind a little rain/drizzle, but the 48 air temp & the fact Ive had a cold thats had me sicker than hell the last 3-4days convinced me to shut it down & try to avoid getting soaked. Spent about 40 minutes before I called it for the a.m.

The hair bite was pretty hot in late may when I got here thru most of june & seemed to dissappear as july went on & hardly threw em in aug. Water temp has dropped about 12 degrees over last 10-14 days & wah-la, Im getting a few here & there on them, again. I ran out of hair jigs in july, but a "dear" friend travelling thru the area last month dropped off his vise/tying tools for me & kept me up with demand

I completely understand what youre saying about deep & light. Strangely, most of the time I can be patient & fish a 1/16 in 20' of water, if needed, but throwing a weightless senko or fluke in 10 of water almost makes me want to to play golf :D
