A Driftless Daze

Spent the last four days up in Vernon County. Can't remember another time where the sole focus of an extended trip was fishing, and only fishing. Cool, crisp mornings with french pressed coffee and back roads where your feet get sore from shifting two > three > four over and over again. Up and down, much like the hills in the area. Perhaps my feet became sore from walking miles of rocky and sandy creeks through forests and farmland. We had no particular plans other than a base camp and some pins placed on a map. No thoughts of anything other than the next stop, the next step, and the next cast. An odd state of mind where you are truly only fishing, sunrise to sunset, everyday. Eating mandarin oranges and granola bars throughout the day and whatever we could whip up on the camp stove at night. When I got back home and woke up on Friday, it felt like I had just dreamt it all as the mindset was so far removed from everyday life. If I didn't have the pictures, I wouldn't have believed it happened

Way to decompress. Too bad you had to come back to what we call civilization.

The question that comes to mind is, "Is this heaven?" And the answer is, "No, this is Wisonsin."

Looks absolutely fantastic. Green with envy.

Well written words to describe the adventure. I often feel the same.

Great pics. I've only gotten up to the Driftless once this year. I'm really hoping to get up there 1 more time before the season closes.

Interesting how few people recognize the outstanding resource the driftless is not to mention why it's called 'the great driftless' or why it's there.

I saw a show on TV a few years back where they asked people on the street if they'd ever heard of it. The majority said no. Funny thing was - it was in downtown LaCrosse!
