Pre-Turkey day paddle

Pre-Turkey day paddle

Postby Skifish1 » Nov Wed 25, 2015 7:26 pm

Burned a vacation day to fish and then hit Cabelas on the way home. My kind of day. :D
Got on water mid morning air temp 38deg and got off mid-afternoon air-temp was 41deg.
Worked about 3 mile section up and down some super grinding due to current and water being up. Visibility 10-14" not great but not terrible .....to be expected with past rain and snow.

Finished the day 3 for 3.... bites really spread and had to work for them. All fish tight to lumber and shore trying to stay out of the current. 2 on a large stick bait and 1 on a large swimbait.

The only downer part of the day was hunters up a large creek....two dead mallards and a dead canadian goose floating down the river..some shotgun shells floating by also.....nice sportsmen huh. I could here them blasting away occasionally but never seen them.

1 good fish today and a couple typical garden variety size fished.

I always wondered why the heck some blinds were in the middle of really fast current. Theres no way a shot bird is retrieved in some of these spots. But heck, a few floatin birds is no worse than the pile of gills or piles of dogfish I see on the river bank.

Good too see some bites. I hope to get on the yak before turkey Thursday.

Yes indeed, those are some fine specimens. I, for one, hope the open water fishing continues for quite awhile still.

That's a nice day. One good thing about these early sunsets is that it gives you more time to spend more money at the local stores afterwards.
The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope. -John Buchan

Nice pike guitars!

Those thoughtless hunters will get theirs. They probably soon will flip their hunting canoe in fast current or drunkenly fall out of a tree stand. They always do.

Well my assumption is that they were shooting birds (wasting them) with no intention to recover them. Thats me not giving them the benefit of the doubt. I could be wrong of course. They were up a creek, dunno maybe there is a wider area. Remote area doubt there was a blind.

Nice fish and post. Don't let the "turkeys" get you down.
