And now the AC bites the dirt

Just in time for the hottest week so far this year my old central AC has gone south. Can't complain - it's well over 30 years old.

Anyone know a trustworthy AC installer?

3 k is far from rape for a new ac system unless your one of the hundred of hacks working out of some beater with a shelving system of drywall buckets. Replace both at the same time usually is a few hundred cheaper.

This helped ease my suffering a tad. I just hate looking at those too good to be true advertisements, makes me feel like a victim all over again.

When we had to replace ours we used All Temp. Great people. When they measured our house to figure what was needed he said the AC I thought I needed was too big. He said it would take lots of years to make its extra cost pay off. Both units he sold me work perfect. When they replaced my furnace, the new one is much smaller than the old one. Had to redo the duct work. Did a prefect job. New furnace and AC are energy efficient. Both cut my bills almost in half.

Glad it helped. Those ads are based on the smallest unit and before you know it. this is extra, this is extra.....
And stay FAR away from the couple you see advertising on TV constantly. As FAR away as possible! 45 years in residential hvac, 35 as an owner, I could write a book on the scams. Let's just say you are not running prime time ads all day by cleaning a flame sensor instead of replacing boards and gas valves at 2-3 times the reasonable price IF it was needed. On a/c units probably 5% HAVE to be replaced.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'll probably catch shit from someone for this but we took the path of least resistance. Went to Cosco. They sent Four Seasons. We signed. Got a top of the line, USA-made Lennox for a bit over 4k. Could have saved a couple hundred by going with a Mexican-made unit but I'd much rather help keep Americans working.

Four Seasons said the new unit is probably 30-40% more energy efficient than the 35 year old Carrier it replaced. That's good too.

We have our AC and furnace serviced at least once a year. Had the same guy for the last 3 years. Very knowledgeable and he shows me all the ins and outs. On top of that he says he used to work for 4 seasons, and is really glad he got out. They constantly pressured their service people to up sell everything and replace stuff, a lot. Good luck, I hope you make out OK.

Yep, them and 'One Hour'. Two of the very most notorious. Could have a whole chapter in my book on those two. Oh well, what's done is done.

I read your complaints about the air conditioner and now I have a question. Have you ever cleaned it at least once after buying it? The instructions say that the air conditioner must be cleaned at least once every six months, so that it does not happen like yours. Watch a few videos and read a couple of articles on air conditioning maintenance. Also, I advise you to either call a specialist, or try to clean it yourself. You can find more on your device's official website and do it. Good luck and butt your technique!

Yanker - COVID got in the way last year but this is definitely the year. Took it out last week & switched the handle from right to left so she can get used to cranking with the correct hand. I spooled it with 8# mono.

Started the worm farm just in time to sell the house & move. Guess I have to find a place that sells live bait around here.

I plan to post about her 1st fishing experience. Thanks again.

Just used four .......2 ½ months ago in the depth of this years winter. Texas iced up and powerless, Midway had 17" of snow, my furnace after 33+ years gave in. Why I chose them?, doubt it was the dweeb but they came out at 5:45 pm and I had a working new furnace at 12:15 am with new AC coils that night.in the middle of a blizzard.
So far so good. Not saying I couldn't have gotten it cheaper, but a furnace has a way of failing in the coldest weather and you'll do anything for heat! Got new refrigerant for the ac a month later included.

Hey Rambler,a Newbie digging up an old post clicked with me

Joe - you're one of the last people I'd suspect would be in favor of big brotherism.

Anyway - what would Ron do for entertainment without the wack-jobs who post their crap here?

It's really not nice when your air conditioner breaks down in hot weather. I think it makes people suffer more than they do from going to work every day. It's best to buy a new one, but we all know how expensive they are these days. So there is a decision only to repair. Last year, I contacted a repairman I didn't know, and he only damaged my stove more. I will strongly now only repair from proven airconservicing.or companies that give me a warranty on their work. All I had to do was just pay a little money for the work.
