First time at Axehead - bupkis

Postby toyasu » Aug Tue 01, 2017 11:48 am

I stopped by around 5pm and tried pretty much every weedless lure in my box for bass from hollow body frogs, rage/horny toads, chatterbaits, texas-rigged craws/senkos, flukes, swimbaits. Three hours and all I got was a small tug for about a second and that was it. An older gentleman nearby (looked like a regular) pulled one largie out of the weeds on a plastic worm of some sort. Guy walking by said he's thrown everything at the bass for hours with no luck as well.

I still have no personal confirmation there are actual catchable fish in that lake even fishing the damned trout opener

While it's been a little tough this year I'd say give Lake Opeka a shot, it's just up Touhy from Axe.

I've seen em. I usually swing by earlier in the season 1-2 weeks after trout fishing begins. You can see some decent bass swimming by. Last year, there was a huge catfish under the submerged picnic table, poking out every 5 minutes, then going back under.

Axehead is on my skunk list and I'm pretty sure its gonna stay there. 5 years ago I had the quantity luck there, not so much quality. Best I've pulled from there was 1 Lb. or less.
