Was able to get out right after work today from 5:30 - 7. Pretty good day at Donut after only 1-2 days of open water there, especially with the strong winds. Sunday afternoon it was almost completely locked up still. Fished the wind-blown North corner of the lake and picked up two within the first 20 minutes. The wind was pretty brutal, but manageable. Only stopped to take a quick picture of the first, which was coincidentally the largest for the day. Managed three more and missed one, all on a 5-1/2" Husky Jerk run down to 4-5 feet then aggressively snapped back up. All hit after the first or second rip after a moderate pause.
Two or weeks after ice-out last year and the year before, with the exact same conditions, I've found them stacked up in the North wind-blown corner like crazy. The elusive pigs that seem to vanish there after the spawn. Hopefully as the water temp continues to rise they'll be chasing more and it'll really pick up. This is one of my favorite local spots in the early spring and late fall. Will be out there (hopefully) quite a bit after work in the next few weeks.
